For a while the US was under the command of French officers who were doing so well (not). After proving that America could own face they were able to command themselves. America took such forests as the Belleau Wood and the Argonne Forest, which was nearly impossible for other nations except for France in which case it was impossible. Those two battles lasted the rest of the year and the war.
