The Wicked Witch of the West wanted the Slippers that had belonged to the Wicked Witch of the East. Dorothy's house had landed on the Wicked Witch of the East, and killed her. Dorothy therefore got the shoes, which had secret powers. In the book and the 1902/1903 stage versions of The Wizard of Oz, author and Oz series originator Lyman Frank Baum [May 15,1856-May 5, 1919] made the Slippers Silver. In the posthumous 1939 film version, the Slippers were Ruby.

In the Wizard of Oz it is not said why she wants the shoes. But in the musical 'Wicked' it is said she wants those slippers because they belonged to her sister Nessarose, (Wicked Witch of the East) and they were all she had to remember her by.

The Wicked Witch of the West kidnapped Dorothy Gale, because she wanted the magical slippers of the Wicked Witch of the East. The slippers were capable of taking their wearer to any destination inside and outside of the beautiful, enchanted, magical lands of Oz. Dorothy's house landed on the Wicked Witch of the East, and killed her. Dorothy got the shoes, and the Wicked Witch of the West wanted them.

In the original 1900 book edition, and in the beloved 1939 film version, of 'The Wizard of Oz', the Wicked Witch of the West tries to kill Dorothy Gale. Her motivation is the magical slippersthat belonged to the Wicked Witch of the East. The slippers have the power to take wearers wherever they want to go. The Witch wants that power, and believes that she has more right to it than Dorothy.

But the stage production of 'Wicked' will tell you that she doesn't want to kill Dorothy she just wants the shoes that belonged to her sister who is dead after a planned murder. she doesn't understand why Dorothy would take shoes that have no significance to her at all.She just wants something to remember her sister by.

How does Dorothy kill the Wicked Witch of the West?

In the original 1900 book edition of The Wizard of Oz, the Wicked Witch of the West tries to kill Dorothy Gale, her pet dog Toto, and their three friends the Cowardly Lion, the Scarecrow, and the Tin Woodman by sending her slaves to kill them all. First, there are wolves, which are followed by crows, bees, enslaved Winkies of the Yellow Winkieland of the West, and Winged Monkeys. Back in her Yellow Castle, the Witch mistreats Dorothy, and trips her. But before Dorothy can be starved or mistreated to death, she throws a fatal bucket of water on the Witch. In the beloved 1939 film version, the Witch tries to kill the five friends when they stop in the deathly poppy field. But Glinda the Good Witch causes it to snow, and thereby keeps the five friends awake and alive. Inside her Castle, the Witch says that Dorothy has only one hour to live. The means of death aren't mentioned. But the Witch causes a fire when she throws the hourglass on the floor. The five friends manage to escape, only to be cornered by the Witch and her torch-lighted broom. The Scarecrow briefly catches fire. But Dorothy throws a fatal bucket of water on the Witch before any further murderous intents can be carried out.

What does Dorthy have to do in the Wizard of Oz?

Towards the end of the film, following the balloon inicdent Dorothy finds herself awake in her bedroom at home. the entire episode was, in layman"s terms, a Nightmare. This plot resolution automatically would preclude a sequel as the thing never happened outside fantasy land.

How many climaxes are there in 'The Wizard of Oz'?

There are two. Dorothy's clapping her heels together and saying, "Take me home to Aunt Em," is the final climax. For it's the final resolution to the original challenge, conflict, crisis, dilemma, problem: what to do to get back home? The Shakespearean climax is a high point that's midway through the story. In The Wizard of Oz, midway most likely is Dorothy's interview with the Wizard, and his instructions to kill the Wicked Witch of the West in exchange for his services. But the Shakespearean climax may be seen as actually occurring close to that point, but some pages later, when Dorothy melts the Wicked Witch of the West with a bucket of water. As a consequence, Dorothy and her friends lose their way, and that makes the other half of the story possible.
