How many astronauts have been on more than one Apollo missions?

3 astronauts flew on multiple Apollo missions * Jim Lovell - Apollo 8, Apollo 13 (intended to land) * John Young - Apollo 10 (later landed on Apollo 16) * Eugene Cernan - Apollo 10 (later landed on Apollo 17) No astronaut has walked on the moon more than once. Additionally 3 astronauts would have flew on multiple Apollo missions and possibly walked on the moon more than once had the program continued past Apollo 17 * Dick Gordon - Apollo 12 (had been slated to land on Apollo 18) * Fred Haise - Apollo 13 was scheduled for Apollo 19 * Stuart Roosa - Apollo 14 (he had also been slated to land on the moon with Apollo 20)

How many people have stood on the surface of the Moon?

If you mean actually walked on the moon, there have been 12 : two each from six NASA missions as part of the Apollo program.24 astronauts have traveled to the moon in total, some of them twice, and some on missions which only orbited or went around the moon. On July 20, 1969, US astronauts Neil Armstrong and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin landed on the moon. Armstrong was the first human to set foot on the lunar surface. Five additional landings were made from 1970 to 1972 (the last manned exploration there). (see related question)

Was Apollo 13 close to the moon?

No not very near they just orbited the moon once and then returned to the earth.

What was the purpose of the Apollo 12?

The purpose of Apollo 12 was to land on Luna, again. Although NASA astronauts already landed on the moon once, in Apollo 11, NASA wanted to learn more of our dear moon.During launch, Saturn V was actually struck by lightning! But after a while of the power off, flight control managed to get the power back up, and the emergency plans weren't used. The three astronauts landed safely on Luna and back to earth.

What did Houston tell Apollo 13 to do?

Houston told Apollo 13 astronats to return back to the earth , after orbiting the moon once. In the Lunar module. The moon lander became the savior.

Why did science once think there were volcanoes on the moon What evidence from the Apollo landing this unlikely?

The Apollo evidence was that there WERE volcanoes on the moon.

What would you find on the moon that would be useful?

The Eagle's landing base and the reflector the Apollo astronauts left (this would prove they actually landed once and for all).Huge amounts of natural resources.Water on the moon would be useful for us.

How long did Apollo 11 orbit the moon before landing?

After it separated , it did not orbit, but before that hey orbited the moon once.

Did the US make it to the moon?

No, the landing was not faked. The moon is only about 235,000 miles from the earth. Although it was an ambitious endeavor for 1969 technology, with little room for error; it was completely within the expectations of those of us who studied physics and (astronomy as a hobby). The Van Allen belt posed no more threat than a few chest x-rays for the short trip through the "hot-spot". The moon's 1/6 earth-gravity combined with no atmospheric pressure, made the dangerous landing a little more predictable. Landing that type of vehicle down through earth's gravity and atmosphere would have been much more difficult. Once the lander was on the moon's surface, the difficult part was done. Remember - we had to abort the Apollo 13 mission, and narrowly escaped losing the whole crew - live and on TV. Does anyone think we faked that one as well?

When was the first time Apollo 11 went to the moon?

Apollo 11 only went to the moon once. The landing was on July 20th, 1969, and it was the first landing. There were Apollo missions before this in earth orbit and lunar orbit and there were five more landing missions after Apollo 11.

People have only landed on the moon once?

There were 6 separate successful moon landing missions, carrying 12 men to the surface.

How many times have you visited the moon in all Who were they Not just the US?

Eight space missions orbited the moon, carrying 24 astronauts. All were men from the USA who traveled to the moon as part of NASA's Apollo program during the period from 1968 to 1972. Six missions landed on the moon, and their 12 astronauts walked on its surface. No man walked on the moon more than once. And nobody except the 24 astronauts on the eight Apollo missions has ever been farther into space than "low earth orbit".
