Mainers or Mainiacs
Maine residents are called Mainers!
Many people from Maine refer to themselves as Maineiacs, but Mainers is the more formal/official term.

The Sea well, A Mariner is a person who helps guide a ship. The Northwest of the country has a great fishing industry. So the term Mariner reflects on Seattle's rich history of being a port city and having a great sea based economy.
Because it's bloody cold up there and the area isn't as urbanized as its neighboring states (i.e. New York). Think of it this way, if you live in the wilderness (not saying all Mainers do, but there is a low degree of urbanization) why would you go to the zoo?
