The Polynesian ancestors of the Maori explored and settled the South Pacific, an area known as the Polynesian triangle which has Hawaii as its northern corner, New Zealand as its southern corner and Easter Island as its eastern corner. the Polynesians who explored and settled in New Zealand became known as Maori.
