There weren't a significant number of soldiers assigned to Pearl Harbor. Typically, soldiers are not assigned to a naval base. The only permanent party Army that are attached are veterinarians. They inspect and certify the meat for rations.

∙ 17y agoDuring the attack at Pearl our soldiers were asleep for the most part, the ammunition was locked up which was routine during and following the Admiral's inspection (which had just occurred). After it was understood we were under attack the soldiers then used anything they could to protect themselves. They helped the injured, found keys or broke locks so they could get the ammunition, they fired weapons they had no training to use, they got into their planes attempting to defend their base. Some used pistols, rocks, anything to NOT feel unable to protect themselves.
