God sent His servant John the Baptist to baptize His Son so that John could help prepare the way for Salvation. John the Baptist laid his hands on Jesus in the Jordan River. It was one Man's righteous act, which took away ALL the sins of humankind. Jesus took away ALL the sins of this world by being baptized. Jesus gave His life on the Cross for the wages of sin. He paid the wages of sin with His death on the Cross. Our sins were passed onto Jesus at his baptism and he was judged and executed on the cross instead of us for those sins. If Jesus Christ had not been baptized by John the Baptist, we could not but remain as sinners and be lost.

In the Old Testament God commanded Moses to ordain his brother, Aaron, the first High Priest, to lay hands on the head of a sacrificial animal (goat), and confess the horrific sins of the children of Israel and their transgressions. (Isaiah 53:3-5) Afterward the goat would bear and carry the iniquities and transgressions of the Israelites upon itself and send it away by a suitable man who was to release the goat into the wilderness. (Leviticus 16:21-22) John the Baptist laid his hands on Jesus' head in the same like manner shortly before His public ministry. In order for Jesus to take away ALL the sins and transgressions of the world, He was willing and humbled to be baptized by John in this manner.

(John 1:29) "The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world."

According to scriptures, as Jesus was being baptized, a dove, for the Holy Spirit, came down, and a voice was heard, saying, "This is my beloved son, in whom I am well pleased." (Is this factually accurate? Well, we don't really know.)

Matthew 3:16-17New International Version (NIV)

16 As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. 17 And a voice from heaven said, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased."

On two occasions, the voice of God from heaven called Jesus his beloved son. In Mark 1:11, after Jesus was baptised, the voice was heard to say, "Thou art my beloved son, in whom I am well pleased." In Mark 9:7, after the Transfiguration of Jesus, the voice was heard to say, "This is my beloved son, hear him."

Although apparently quite separate events, the two occasions are actually intimately linked through the parallel structure of Mark's Gospel, where they were first reported. A parallel structure is a literary sequence in which an opening set of events is contrasted with another, parallel set of events that mirrors the first, and was used in ancient times to provide emphasis and to reinforce a message. Because the structure was a literary device used for emphasis, we can never be sure whether the voice of God was really heard from heaven on one or both occasions.

The major events in the parallel structure of Mark follow, with the voice of God from heaven in events C and C':A . John explains the coming of Jesus (Mark 1:1-8)

B .The baptism of Jesus (1:9)

C . The voice of God from heaven, "Thou art my beloved son" (1:11)

D . The forty days in the wilderness as an allusion to Elijah and Moses (1:13)

E . The people were astonished at what Jesus taught (1:22)

F . Jesus casts out an unclean spirit (1:23-26)

G . Pharisees took counsel with the Herodians how they might destroy Jesus (3:6)

H . Demons, whenever they see Jesus, fall down and say that he is the Son of God.

-- Jesus commands that they tell no one of this (3:11-12)

O . Jesus sends out the disciples and curses those who will not receive them (6:7-11)

"This is my beloved son In whom I am well pleased. "

These words are repeated by God at the Transfiguration, to which the baptism is linked through the framework, parallel structure of Mark's Gospel, where the two accounts first appeared. Parallel structures are literary sequences in which an opening set of events is contrasted with another, parallel set of events that mirrors the first, and were frequently used in ancient times to provide emphasis or to develop themes that were not otherwise apparent. A . John explains the coming of Jesus (Mark 1:1-8)

yes, by John the Baptist (Matthew 3:13-17) When Jesus asked John to baptize Him, John was surprised and said, "I need to be baptized by You! And you're coming to me?!" Who batizied Jesus?

The Person who baptized Jesus was John the Baptist( Jesus' cousin) and when John baptized Jesus, God, His father came from heaven and told the people who Jesus was ans what he would do. God is the only real God who is Jesus' father and who is also Jesus Christ. its a bit confusing :) but Jesus Christ is the only true God and if you don't believe in him and ask him into your life then you may not live in eternity. (heaven)

When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

Do you have to be saved or baptized for your prayers to be answered?

No. ANSWER: God has no reason to answer an unbelievers prayer UNLESS it is a prayer for salvation. After salvation God will answer your prayers. You do not have to be baptized to have your prayers answered. Your prayers are addressed to God in Jesus' name. If you do not belong to God through Jesus Christ God will not hear you.

What was Jesus' reply when John the Baptist baptised him?

First, Jesus asked John to baptize him, and John basically said that Jesus should be the one doing the baptizing here. Jesus persisted, so John baptized him, and the Heavens opened up and God said, "he is truly my son" or something to that effect.

How did John the Baptist feel about people going to Jesus instead of him?

If you ever read the bible or watched a movie about John the Baptist he said that he knew that Jesus was the son of God and he really didn't have a problem with that. And when John the Baptist baptized the Son of God, before he even did it he fell to his knees and said to Jesus that he wasn't worthy enough to baptize Him.
