Tony Blair is often remembered as being part of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars; along with President Bush he is often accused by the media and other politicians as being to blame for the massacre of thousands of innocent civilians in a war against terrorism. However it is too easy for one to dwell on the perceived failures of Tony Blair - he introduced and increased the minimum wage, cut the crime rates significantly, increased Government jobs (a later criticism of the Conservative administration) and, amongst other things, lowered the unemployment level.
Tony Blair joined George Bush by sending forces to Iraq and defeating the leader Saddam Hussein.

It very much depends on which side of the political spectrum you are and not a question that can be answered simply.

To be brief.

After a decade and a half of Conservative rule much of the British public had become disenchanted with the government. They in turn had become complacent and believed they could do little wrong.

The introduction of New Labour and the "Third Way" revived a moribund Labour party and Tony Blair was seen by many as a dynamic and visionary new leader of the party.

The public thought so too at the election of 1997. There were massive reforms in the public sector and new and very different social and financial policies were introduced. Initially this was beneficial for the country, or at least for many individuals.

However there can be little doubt that he misled the people over the war with Saddam Hussien.

In addition, towards the end of his tenure he was seen as little more than a puppet of the US and merely a self serving politician.

Along with Gordon Brown, his Chancellor of the Exchequer, and the rest of the cabinet their policies ruined a once thriving economy.

When Tony Blair left office Gordon Brown was left to solve the problems, many of which he help to create. The country was effectively bankrupt.
