More than 50,000 troops where MIA after the conflict came to a close. They also in battle had to deal with the Tet Offensive which was similar to the Kamikazee attacks from WWII. They often delt with Sickness and bad sleeping conditions in the jungles. Theres much much more I am sure but thats the basics
American casualties and veterans to the Vietnam War (1959-1975) have been honored across many levels. Community recognition has involved local parades and wreath laying ceremonies. Local and national recognition has come from the construction of monuments and roads. The Vietnam Memorial in Washington, DC is a chief example of this honor.
Guerrilla war in South Vietnam '55; conventional war with North Vietnam '64.
Unfortunately, the statistics for War Veterans in America goes by each State (in Canada, Province to Province). If you type in Google and once it's up, type in "American War Veterans in ____" and then put the State name in you will get the stats. There actually isn't a correct total to a census to war vets and I have no idea why. I did come up with one, but the figures didn't make any sense. For example: Vietnam Vets who refused to return .. 0 Vietnam Vets alive at end of 2003 ... 591 Although this chart did not go by State it must be some State with such a low figure. Also, I do know for a fact that many young American men came to Canada because they didn't believe in the Vietnam War. Sorry I couldn't get better stats for you, but if you go into Google as I suggested and go state by state you should get some facts and figures.
You were put in jail. Which is why a number of young men went to Canada.
Strictly military. Remember; Civilians volunteered to go to Vietnam (large contracts). Military men were ordered there (or else!).
They Went through harsh times.

During the Vietnam War, in the US military, women were part of the WAC's (Women's Army Corps) in the US Army. The US Navy had the WAVE's.

During the Vietnam War, many Vietnam veterans criticized the U.S. government for forcing them to go to war at the age of eighteen but not allowing them to vote until age 21. As a result, the U.S. Constitution was amended in 1971, lowering the minimum voting age to 18.

There was no "Vietnam" during the Vietnam War. Communist NORTH Vietnam was attacking non-communist SOUTH Vietnam, and the US was trying to drive the communists out of South Vietnam...trying to stop communist aggression. It's called the Vietnam War because it's a lot easier to say, and less confusing...than to say "South Vietnam War" or "North Vietnam War", so some people go so far as to say the war in Southeast Asia instead.
To fight communism.
The NUMBER ONE reason for protesting the war was THEY DIDN'T WANT TO GO TO VIETNAM (THE DRAFT!).
If you're referring to the last person considered a casualty of the Vietnam War, it would be a Marine by the name of Kelton R Turner, who was killed during the Mayaguez Incident. The last name which was added to the wall was that of Marine Gunnery Sergeant Enrique Valdez.
