The difference is in the way how they process communications between two or more computers. If you send some information to one computer only using hub it will resend the information to all computers in the network. When switches resend information to the only one computer.
Switches break collision domains while hubs do not.
Comparison between hub switch
Hub room kept network routers, switches firewall servers etc Server room or data room is for servers / workstations
switches does not have the database...much smarter than a hub.
Link-type shared
A freewheel hub dose not make the pedals go forward when the backwheel is turning, a track hub dose.
There are no layer 1 switches; switches run at layer 2 or 3. A hub is a layer 1 device.
Technology wise there is no such difference.
The standard Ethernet cables (UTP) basically limits the maximum distance between hubs, or between switches, or between a hub and a switch, to about 100 meters. If you use a longer cable than that, the signal will degrade too much, and the network may become unstable. The standard Ethernet cables (UTP) basically limits the maximum distance between hubs, or between switches, or between a hub and a switch, to about 100 meters. The main difference is that air break switches lack a mechanism for suppression and load break switches do have them. They are both disconnect switches but have different uses.
Hubs and Switches make 1 ethernet connection out of as many is on the hub or switch.

Switches provide each computer with the full network bandwidth when routing packets, where a hub splits the bandwidth of the network across all the ports it has.
A router allows communication between two different networks. A hub just links devices in a network.
