It affects the life of a Muslim because it is one of the Five Pillars of Islam. Just as any human being, it will affect their life- you feel a lot more credible and proud when you give, and Zakat is one of the Five Pillars of Islam that carries on through one Muslim's life- because you are required to give 2.5% of your income every year to charity, some Muslims donating more.
