The Monocot Stem has Vascular Bundles near the outside edge of the Stem. Vascular Bundles are scattered in Parenchymatous ground Tissue. There is no pith region in Monocots. Dicot Stems have bundles in a ring surrounding Parenchyma cells in a pith region.

Monocotyledons (often abbreviated to "monocot") and dicotyledons are two categories of flower producing plants (angiosperms) and both have different characteristics.

A monocotyledonous plant has 1 cotyledon in the seed (hence the name mono = one + cotyledon), parallel veins up and down the leaf (like grass plants), and floral parts are usually in multiples of 3. Monocot plants also normally have shallow adventitious root systems.

By comparison A dicotyledonous plant has 2 cotyledons in the seed, veins branching from a midrib, and floral parts usually in multiples of 4 or 5. Dicot plants normally have branched, but predominantly tap-toot systems.

Examples of monocots are: Grasses (ornimantal), grains (such are rice, wheat, rye, maize), bamboos, most forms of palm tree, orchids, many bulbous plants such as lilies, agapanthus, clivia etc.

See the related link, nice diagramatic, a PDF file, but good. Thanks to whoever posted the link.

An example of a monocot is a tulip. Lilies and other flowers are also monocots.

Grasses, grains and bamboo are monocotyledons.

If you click on 'related links' below you can see a picture of a monocotyledon (leaf).

In most dicots, the endosperm is absorbed during embryonic development, so it is unique to the monocotic seed.

Edited answer:

Scutellum is unique to the seed of a monocot which separates the embryo from the endosperm.

1. Monocots do not have vascular cambium it is present in dicots

2. Dicots grow in girth by secondary growth through vascular cambium, this type of secondary growth is absent in monocot,

3. Dicots have two cotyledones with their embryo, monocots have only one.

Monocots lack the vascular cambium structure that dicots have. Dicots have two cotyledons in the embryo, as well, while monocots only have one.
