In 1990 the remains of a large meat-eating dinosaur were found near the 4000 meter peak of Mt Kirkpatrick in the Trans Antarctic Mountains. The fossils were excavated in 1991 by Bill Hammer from Augustana Collage in Illinois, USA, and identified as the new theropod dinosaur Crylophosaurus, the frozen-crested lizard. Crylophosaurus was around eight metres in length and sported a strange crest on its head, giving it a passing resemblance to Elvis Presley in his more bouffant days.
Cryolophosaurus was discovered in 1991 by paleontologist William R. Hammer and his team on Mount Kirkpatrick, the highest peak in the entire Queen Alexandra Range of the Transantarctic Mountains. The name Cryolophosaurus was derived from the Greek kryos (meaning "cold" or "frozen"), lophos(meaning "crest") and sauros (meaning "lizard" or "reptile").FYI, Due to The Crest's resemblance to Elvis Presley's signature haircut in the 1950s, this dinosaur was nicknamed the Elvisaurus It represents the oldest known tetanuran from any continent and it is the only one, from the Early Jurassic Period.
