The main pulley on which the serpentine belt goes on in a 1997 Chevy Lumina LTZ is the crankshaft pulley. The crankshaft pulley plays a role in the wheels turning and powering the alternator and power steering pump.

Clockwise
Look at the bottom front of the engine / Big pulley. Witch is called a Harmonic balancer. The crank sensor is bolted into the left side of the timing cover behind the balancer.
BEHIND the starter. You MUST remove the starter to get to it.
crankshaft sensor is located just behind the crankshaft pulley on the front of the engine(passenger side of vehicle).
Same as the Tahoe behind the starter
How do you put the pulley back on the power steering pump on a 1990 suburban
Disconnect the battery and remove the fan assembly and crankshaft belts. Remove the center bolt from the pulley and use a crankshaft pulley remover to pull off the pulley. You can usually borrow one from an auto parts store.
THE CRANK SENSOR ON A 97 5.7 IS LOCATED UNDER THE CRANKSHAFT PULLEY BETWEEN THE PULLEY AND THE OILPAN. SLIGHTLY TO DRIVERS SIDE
It will be at 12oclock stright up.
The spring on it goes down in the engine.
