The British-American triumph in the French and Indian War, because the French then lost it's North American Empire, but it also changed the relationship of Britains with their own colonies. The Second Continental Congress formed a 'Committee of Five' to author the Declaration of Independence. These men were John Adams of Massachusetts, Benjamin Franklin of Pennsylvania, Thomas Jefferson of Virginia, Roger Sherman of Connecticut, and Robert R. Livingston of New York. Thomas Jefferson was then chosen to write the document. Franklin made some changes to Jeffersons work and others had input for the final draft. Historically, Thomas Jefferson is considered the author of the Declaration of Independence.
