There was a disagreement on the role of faith in salvation. Protestants believe that salvation is by faith in Jesus Christ alone, not in one's works. Catholics believe one's works play a part in salvation. There were other issues brought up by early Protestants, such as Martin Luther, who wrote a list of them known as the 95 Theses.
