Nothing really except proving the world is round which had already been done, discovering a way around the Americas, through the strait of Magellan, and he named the Pacific Ocean for its calm waters. His crew did bring spice back to Spain though but the spices were already discovered.
He proved that the world was round not flat. He also proved that the world was larger than anyone thought it was.

Magellan failed when he went on an expedition and didn't make it alive.
he traded with indians and sailed across the world
He wanted to know the western route to the Indies.

Magellan didn't make it. He died in the Philippines but 18 of his men did make it back.
