Trench foot was one of the many diseases that went around the trenches; it is caused by wet feet and fungus and alot of soldiers lost their feet as some cases were extremely bad. What is known as shellshock today was also very frequent. Shellshock is pretty much breaking down the enemy psycologically - stressing them out and having them so shocked, they are physically unable to be in battle. It generally lasts in a short period of time. Trench mouth was also a sick disease that existed in the trenches. Soldiers didn't have the time to brush their teeth, thus, a very hardcore type of gingivitis broke down the teeth, make the skin of them gum bleed.. it was very painful.

Are there any World War I trenches left to visit?

After the war the trenches went away as the land returned to its original uses, but I found a couple of them left that you can visit. One is Vieil Armand in Alsace, and the trenches were mostly carved in stone so they are well preserved. Also, World War 1 trenches in the Meuse have been restored to their original condition so that people can visit them. The German trenches there were built with concrete reinforcements, but the French trenches had filled in over the years and had to be dug out again.

If you went halfway around the world and then back would that be a longer distance than if you just went all the way around it once?

If you went half way around the world and then stopped and turned around and went back to where you came from it would be as if you had gone around the world all the way. So no it would not be longer it would be the same distance.

Why were trenches hard to attack?

These trenches were not easy to get rid of, if you went over the top to attack the other side, machine guns would strike men down.

How did Britain attack from the trenches in World War 1?

Well, first of all, there was a spot called 'no mans land' which literally meant, no man went on this land. Sand bags were piled up around each trench and you quickly poked your gun up and shot. Hopefully you shot something. Also, no mans land basically was the area in between the two trenches. No man went here because there was a 99.99999% chance you wouldn't make it back to the trench. YOU LIVE IN THE TRENCH!!
