winipcfg
winipcfg
Ping is a useful TCP/IP utility to check network connectivity. Two other useful troubleshooting tools are Ipconfig (Windows 200/XP) and Winipcfg (Windows 9x/ME), which test TCP/IP configuration.
TCP/IP is a standardized suite of networking protocols. Any system that uses TCP/IP would have the same capabilities, utilities, protocols, and tools. Therefore, if both Unix and Windows are utilizing TCP/IP everything should be in common between the two. There shouldn't be anything that is in one but not the other.
TCP stands for "Transportation Charter Party". TCP is a number assigned by the Public Utilities Commission of California in their regulation of Commerce in California.
Displays all current TCP/IP network configuration values and refreshes Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) and Domain Name System (DNS) settings. Used without parameters, ipconfig displays the IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway for all adapters.Read more from Microsoft:http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/ipconfig.mspx?mfr=trueOr from Wikipedia:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ipconfig
TCP/IP first
TCP/IP is the standard default.
The TCP/IP utilities are used to troubleshoot and diagnose issues with TCP/IP protocols. Ping is used to test connectivity between nodes in a network, netstat will show you ports in use and network connections, traceroute will trace the hops between routers/networks, nslookup and dig can be used to troubleshoot DNS problems.
The "default gateway" is your router.
