Two species of penguins breed on the Antarctic continent: Adelie and Emperor. They live at sea, because they are sea birds.
During the breeding season, adult penguins tend eggs, keeping them warm in the extreme cold. Once the eggs hatch, one adult returns to the sea to feed. This adult returns with a full belly and regurgitates food into the mouth of the chick. The other adult, then, is free to return to the sea and feed.
Once the chicks fledge, all penguins return to the sea.
