The ultimate aim or destination of a Buddhist is to attain 'enlightenment' ; to return to its true nature. Every existence in this whole cosmo or universe is governed bu the Law of Nature; every existence exist in the form of energy. Human is a composite of the four great elements of Earth, Water, Fire and Air (inanimated energy) plus the energy of the Mind (animated energy). Anything conditioned to exist with two or more form or a composite of form will bound to have conflict with one another. Therefore the mental state of mind and the physical state of mind of human is bound to change - the Law of Impermanence. Until we have perfect these state of mind (attaining enlightenment) we continue to live in delusion, in suffering life after life. Therefore the sole purpose of becoming a Buddhist is to return to its true nature, the Buddha Nature.

Buddhists believe human beings are sentient (thinking, aware) beings. This means they have the capacity to become enlightened. Beyond this there is little to parallel to religions like Christianity which apparently believes humans to be the apex of creation, specifically designed by a god to worship him, etc. Buddhist also believe that humans are caught up in a cycle of death and rebirth as they work their way towards enlightenment. As a consequence Buddhists believe that human beings are subjuct to pain and unsatisfactor events due to their unrealized and uncontrolled desires.
