If you no longer have the vehicle, you can simply throw the title away. If you still have the body or chassis, you may want to keep the title in case you want to take the remains to the junkyard. Junkyards usually require titles before they will accept a vehicle.
You will have to list your parent(s) on the insurance too. Companies usually wont insure a car unless the person is listed that is on the title.
