All Japanese high school girls must wear their high school uniform to class every school day. Each high school has it's own design of school uniform. So you can tell which school a girl is from just by looking at her uniform.

Generally, the junior high school uniforms have longer dresses and are more conservative. But the senior high school dresses can get pretty short. The length of dresses are set by strict rule from each school, but often girls "roll up" their skirt at the waist to appear more attractive.

Japan sets a uniform policy in order to make each student feel equal. The government feels if some students come to school in expensive brand clothing while others come in inexpensive clothing, it will divide the students into rich and poor groups and make students feel bad about themselves. Thus the famous, school girl uniform.
