Jews do not call the sabbat "Saturday", it is called 'Shabbat'. Shabbat happens to start Friday at sundown and ends Saturday at sundown, the 7th day of the week.

Why is Saturday the Jewish sabbath?

The question can be read two different ways:Why is the Sabbath on Saturday as opposed to Monday or Thursday? The Jews were observing Shabbat long before the English language came into existence. They counted out seven says and made the seventh day their Sabbath in accordance with the Biblical Creation story which claimed the seventh day would be the day of rest. When the English names of the days came into existence, the day that the Jews observed Shabbat coincided with the day Saturday. Why is the Jewish Sabbath on Saturday while the Christian Sabbath is on Sunday? The Sabbath was originally Saturday, but the Church fathers changed the day of prayer and rest to Sunday. The reason for this is hotly debated with some Church fathers saying that they did this to coincide with Jesus' Resurrection while others say that the Sabbath was always celebrated on Sunday in the Diaspora.

What day is special preparation is made to keep the sabbath holy?

There is no special preparation day for keeping the Sabbath Day holy. Keeping the Sabbath Day holy basically means attending church on Sunday and keeping that day focused on God.Answer:Satan has truly confounded and confused the laws of God and times (Dan.7:25) in the hearts and minds of men since Adam and Eve chose him over their Creator, to worship and obey in the beginning.God's reckoning of a 24-hour day is different from the way man observes it today. With God, the new day begins with the going down of the sun. No "wristwatch" is needed. With man... the new day begins in the satanic "witching hour" of "midnight."With God, the 24-hour day always begins with the "night time" portion in "PREPARATION" for the daylight portion."...And the EVENING and the MORNING were the first day." (Gen.1:5)"...And the EVENING and the MORNING were the second day." (verse 8)See also verses: (13, 19, 23 and 31).The "seventh" day of the week, which God established to remind man of creation and that He is the Creator, is the only day of the week which HE GAVE A NAME."In the end of the SABBATH, as it began to dawn toward the FIRST DAY OF THE WEEK..." (Matt.28:1).Few people, in spite of the global calendar confusion in the world, today, have any difficulty understanding in the above verse in Matthew 28, that it is talking about the days of the week we call "Saturday" (the Sabbath) and "Sunday" (the first day of the week). And the Holy Spirit of God inspired it in the "New Testament"... it's not a verse from the Old. The Holy Spirit either knows (even in these "New Testament times") when the Lord's Sabbath is (on the seventh day)... or it forgot that it was changed to Sunday... and made a mistake in this verse. The "preparation" for the Sabbath, in any event, is difficult for modern man to fathom when his days begin sometime in the middle of the night. From the Lord's perspective, however... the "preparation" of any of our Creator's sabbath days (weekly or annual) is the "night time portion" of that sabbath day, beginning at sundown.

Can Jewish people use telephone on Saturdays?

Firstly, in this question there is a misunderstanding of the 'day' of the Jewish Sabbath. Saturday is commonly believed among non-Jews to be the Sabbath. This is incorrect. The Jewish days begin at sundown. The Jewish Sabbath begins at the start of the seventh day of the week. Therefore, the Jewish Sabbath begins Friday at sundown and continues until one hour after sundown on Saturday. If one lives in a city where the sun sets at 3 p.m. on Friday, then the Sabbath begins at 3 p.m. on Friday and continues until 4 p.m. Saturday. If the sun sets at noon on Friday...; etc. Now, to answer the question. Jewish people cannot use a phone (to receive a call or to make a call) on the Sabbath. Once the Sabbath has passed, yes, a Jew can use the phone.

Is sabbath day Sunday?

Many Christians keep Sabbath on Sunday the first day of the week. The Jewish Sabbath starts Friday at sundown and ends Saturday at sundown, the 7th day of the week. Another View: The majority of Christians observe Sunday, the first day of the week, and may refer to it as 'Sabbath' designating it as a day of rest. Many point to the resurrection of Jesus for the reason for this change from the Biblical Sabbath, the seventh day of the week. The Biblical Sabbath is Saturday, the seventh-day of the week. Jews and over 18 million Christians observe this day. They observe it according to the Biblical commandment from sundown Friday to Saturday at sundown. In over 140 different languages the seventh-day of the week, which we call Saturday, uses the term translated 'Sabbath' or 'rest".

Is holy Saturday a catholic day of obligation?

Its Sunday - the sabbath day.The Sabbath day is a Saturday. Sunday is the first day of the week which Catholics use has their Holy Day I was raised Catholic, and I'm hereby confirming that the Sabbath Day is Saturday. Sunday is not nor ever was the Sabbath. Emperor Constantine did not call Sunday the Sabbath when he decreed it to be the day of rest; it's the day of the sun god, which had many worshipers in Constantine's time. Why billions of so-called Christians for almost 17 centuries have gone along with Constantine is beyond me.

Why did Jesus have to be dead for three days?

To fulfill prophecy: "For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth." (Matthew 12: 40). Also, Christ died on Friday, and rested on the Sabbath day (we call the seventh day, Sabbath, Saturday) in observance of the fourth commandment, found in Exodus 20:8-10. Thus, He had to wait until at least Saturday night (Sabbath lasts from sundown Friday to sundown Saturday, according to the Genesis account) before He could rise, if He was to observe Sabbath.

When did Good Friday start?

Good Friday started at sunset on what we would call Thursday and ran until sunset on Friday. The Sabbath started at sunset Friday and ended at sunset on Saturday. At the cross the Roman soldiers broke the legs of the two theives so that they would die before the Sabbath and not suffer during the Sabbath. That lets us know that Good Friday ended prior to the Sabbath.
