Just like many December celebrations in Mexico, New Year is celebrated through a dinner and depending on each family, a party.
Dinner includes Mexican dishes, such as tamales, pozole, turkey or grilled pork chops. Common beverages include Hot Chocolate, Mexican fruit punch (or ponche de frutas) and apple cider.
Parties include more often than not, piñatas, music and fireworks.

In Mexican Culture, most people celebrate "noche buena" which means holy night. We make a big dinner which consists of tamales and posole. Posole is a stew which is made of pork, chicken and hominy. It also contains dried red peppers which gives the stew its red color. We go to midnight mass and come back around 1 and the kids open there gifts and we have dinner. It's usually an all night party.
