∙ 12y agoMembers of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (commonly called the "Mormon" church) believe that marriage and dating are very important. As dating is seen as a way to find a spouse, most members of the Church do not start dating until they are in their late teens. The Church guidlines for youth suggest that dating should begin at age 16 or older. Dating, especially while in the teen years, is usually casual and done in groups. It is a way to get to know others and learn how to interact with the opposite gender. Teens are encouraged to date only those with similar moral and ethical standards. Intimate or sexual relationships outside of a legal marriage are considered a serious sin and are avoided.
Once arriving at an age that one feels comfortable marrying, dating becomes much more serious. Marriage and family are some of the most important concepts in Mormonism, and therefore dating for those in their 20's is usually all about finding a spouse rather than having fun. To help young single Mormons find other young single Mormons, the Church has hundreds of single's-only congregations. Dances, religion classes, and other activities are also sponsored by the Church.
Marriage for couples where both are Mormon often occurs in one of the Church's Temples. They believe that marriages that take place in the Temple will last throughout eternity, while marriages done outside the temple last only 'until death do you part'. Those getting married outside the temple will have the opportunity to go to the temple later to have their marriage 'sealed' for eternity. While church members are encouraged to marry others of the same faith, the Church does not tell people who to marry. Happiness in the relationship, rather than similar faith, is most important.
Divorce among Mormons is nearly as common as it is nationwide. Many of those divorced enter back into the dating world and marry again.

They believe that marriage is a commandment from God. Mormon men are often reminded to be kind and respectful to women, especially their wives and mothers. Husbands and wives are to work together to make their marriage and family operate successfully. Also, Mormons believe that men should have one wife and remain completely faithful to her. Those who are not faithful to their wife often face excommuncation from the Church.

Marriage is considered a very sacred and solemn covenant by Mormons, and is taken very seriously. If you are married, you are expected to be completely loyal and honest to your spouse. Adultry and similar actions are very strongly condemned and typically lead to excommunication from the Church. Mormons believe that sex should only take place within a legally recognized marriage relationship.
Mormons believe that if they are married or 'sealed' in the Temple, they will remain married 'for eternity' in the afterlife. The 'sealing' ceremony is available to any legally married Mormons who have been actively participating members of the church for at least one year.
The Church encourages it's members to marry other church members, but will support multi-faith marriages. The Church condemns arranged, polygamous, underage, illegal, or homosexual marriages. Those participating in these types of marriage are often excommunicated.
