For a Muslim, the purpose of life is to live in a way that is pleasing to God so that one may gain Paradise. An account of each person's deeds is maintained by God, and this will be used at the Day of Judgment to determine his eternal fate. The Qur'an also suggests a doctrine of divine predestination, although not all Muslims subscribe to this (since it may violate free-will).
The Muslim doctrine of salvation is that unbelievers and sinners will be condemned, but genuine repentance results in Allah's forgiveness and entrance into Paradise upon death.
The Qur'an teaches the necessity of both faith and good works for salvation and these are summed up by the Five Pillars of Islam (which are discussed in the Related Question).
Islam argues contrary to Christianity that God has provided a roadmap of ethical conduct and that by following this roadmap, one can obtain salvation through merit. Christianity argues that it is impossible to merit salvation and, therefore, it can only be granted through God's grace. As a result, God plays a pivotal role in granting salvation in Christianity where He does not in Islam.

Allah is "the Deity" in Arabic language and is worshiped by Muslims. Non-Muslims worship "the Deity" and name Him differently in their own languages. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Christians aren't non-muslims, they believe in the same God - but call him Jehova/Yahweh so they do believe in Allah. Jews aren't non-muslims, they believe in the same God - but call him Elohim so they do believe in Allah.
Allama Iqbal said,"I have learned one thing from the history of mankind,at difficult moments in their history,it is Islam that has saved muslims not muslims that has saved Islam.
