Some eat meat. Some eat vegetables only. Some eat vegetables and eggs only and some are vegan.
In Sikhism we are allowed to choose what we wish to eat.
Sikh's who are baptised cannot eat "Kuttha meat", ritually killed meat (like Kosher and Halal).
If the Sikh has taken Amrit (holy water) and has chosen to follow their religion, they are not allowed to take any alcohol or drugs or smoke because it is forbidden. If a Sikh has not taken Amirt it is still forbidden but consequences are not as severe but it is still considered a sin.

The effect's that Guru Nanak had on Sikhism is Huge. He was the one who created the religion of Sikhism. He travelled allot with his friends and told stories to the villages and what you should do. He would not eat with the higher cast because he only ate food of honest, hard work (The wealthy banker story). So basically the affects are big. He change what people think and do.
