Not enough if you actually think this an issue in the sense of history. Or alternately, the answer is "who cares?". Do you think the French do? The Germans? Why should the Americans?
Not all, but pretty much almost all are. French think very highly of their language, and if you don't speak it properly, they might take it as you insulting them and they will pretend not to understand you, when they technically do. French think of Americans as culturally ignorant people.
