∙ 7y agoAt its worst point a wheel bearing can cause a loud grounding almost roaring like sound. If a wheel bearing goes out is can cause a loss of the wheel and cause a car to spin off the road.

The loud drone sound is from the wheel bearings. I had to replace the two front wheel bearings on my 2004 Mazda3 2.3. try rotating the tires first, because a bad tire will sound almost the same. I also have the same problem. I did rotated my tires but find out all suspensions need to be replace. Bad suspensions cause tires to cupped and make those drone noise.

A bad wheel bearing does not sound like a jet engine. It is more of a grinding noise. If you only hear this during acceleration, I would suspect your breather intake is loose or disconnected. Unload the bearings by swerving right and left. If the noise disappears then you may indeed have a bad bearing. In other words if you swerve right and the noise disappears, suspect a bad right wheel bearing, etc.
