Medieval castles with flags flying all over the place are a Hollywood invention. If there was a flag flying at all, it would be the flag that the lord of the castle also took into battle, which would either be the "regular" rectangular shape, or it might be a streamer. The flag would show the lord's coat of arms.
Today, castles showing the flag will usually do so only on national holidays and then use the national flag, king size. Only a king will still fly a large banner depicting his coat of arms on his own castle when he is 'at home'.

Japanese castles look more like mansions or night clubs not castles like GOODRICH and WINDSOR in England.Recently i took a trip to Goodrich and it was more of a rewin that a castle but you could still identify the parts. If you are wondering what a Japanese castle looks like then in google type in: Castles in Japan. these pictures really inspired me for my school project of designing then making your own castle. thanks.
The first castle were a defencestructure or a fortress. Monarch (royalty) or nobles were the usual residents of these castles.
Shell keep castles are round rather than boxed. A castle that forms a circle is a perfect example. There are many in England.
Somewhere close to 30, but depends on whether we count the castles that are complete ruins now (like Sandwon Castle).
A castles weakness is the bridge, flags, and other things unknown.

Castles are typically large, fortified structures with thick stone walls, towers, and battlements. They often have a central keep or stronghold surrounded by walls and sometimes a moat. Castles can vary in architectural style depending on the time period and region in which they were built.
