They put out their shoes. I think I remember reading that Dutch children put out wooden shoes with hay in them for the reindeer!

Boots, Dutch shoes, both footwear.
We Dutch have our own Santa who comes end November. He places gifts in the children's shoes which they have put besides the radiator or fireplace. If we give each other gifts during Christmas we put them under the Christmas tree.
There are countless Christmas traditions in the world, varying from country to country, culture to culture, and even from family to family. The Christmas tree is the most popular tradition. Belgian children leave carrots and hay for Saint Nicholas's horses (as opposed to reindeer.) Czechs set a place at their tables for the Christ child. In France, children have their shoes filled with gifts and candy instead of stockings.
They leave their hats out for "Santa" to fill.
Holland And this is done on 5 December well before Christmass. See the link below for more.
Nothing at all! Santa Claus does not come to Dutch children, so they don´t need the stocking. They get presents on December 5th from a Santa-lookalike called Sinterklaas and he puts presents in shoes
