I'm sure there are many medications that a doctor can give to a patient after surgery, but I know I have been given hyrdocortisone. It is normally given in IV form and is then called Solumedrol. Hyrdrocortisone is a form of Cortisol, which the adrenal glands produce naturally. Cortisol is the hormone that wakes you up in the morning and then again in the middl of the afternoon. Ever have lunch, get sleepy and then suddenly get a burst of energy? That was your body producing about 20mg of Cortisol! So it stands to reason that if your body produces cortisol to wake you up in the morning/afternoon, another form of that hormone will do the same after surgery. Cortisol/Solumedrol directly controls your heartbeat, your respiration, pulse and blood pressure. The more of the hormone in your system, the faster your heart will beat, the faster your lungs will pump and the higher your respiration, pulse and blood pressure. Prednisone is another form of Cortisol, produced in a laboratory and is therefore very pure and very powerful.

Im going to get surgery is it going to hurt?
depending on the surgery, you will get either a localanesthetic or a general one, so you will not feel anything, when you wake up the nurse will give you something for your pain if you have any and that will make you more comfortable..
How is it possible for the patient to be awake during brain surgery?
To my knowledge, the doctors wake up you after the section of your skull is removed. They can do this because your brain had no nerve ending so a person doesn't not feel pain while the brain surgeons are operating.

yes! they have to be very smart, or else they could kill you. if they give you too much anesthesia, you'll never wake up. if you they don't give you enough, you'll wake up during the surgery.
Do people become aggressive after they had surgery?
Generally after surgery people are just tired and nauseous. Some patients wake up with the "thankful to be alive" feeling. Most children (and some adults) cry for a while afterwards - the children because they are scared, and the adults because they are scared or relieved. I was the first to go in for surgery (on 90mls of Methadone) & the last to wake up after. I was asleep an extra 4hrs after the last guy to wake who went in as the 4th patient.
Can you sue a dr if you wake up during surgery?
