The most common reason for a urine test is to check for urinary tract infection. This can be done by looking at the urine under a microscope, doing a chemical "dip" test, or doing a bacterial culture. Urine can also be tested for concentration, proteins and other metabolic byproducts that help access different disease states like kidney disease. It can also be tested for certain drugs. There are two basic types urine drug tests. Most common is what is called a "qualitative" screen. It only tests for a dozen or so drugs that may be prescribed or taken illicitly. It will only tell you if it is detected or not.

∙ 14y agoA doctor takes your urine sample so they can tell if your healthy. if it's clear, your healthy. if it has sugar in it it means you have a disease called Diabetes. And if it contains protein it means you might have a problem with your kidney's. if your urine has blood in it ,you might have injured parts of your urinary system somehow. or you might have a urine tract infection.

∙ 13y agoI was wondering first i took a drug test for my doctor and i know i had all of my prescriptsions in my.now the doctor called me and told me that i needed to make a appointment to descuss my results Is this normal? and do they check the levels in the urine cause I heard it was the blood test for that? please tell me if im worring about nothing cause it is odd when a persons doctor calls personally.
Well, could be a lot of things. If you are female , maybe you're pregnant. Could be a urinary tract infection, maybe even an STD showed up. Anything abnormal, just be glad somebody found it before you were symptomatic. No, the doctor is not going to call to congratulate you on the sterling quality of your specimen, but it might be a blessing in disguise. And you DO know that things like psuedoephedrine and even a large intake of poppy seeds can throw a false positive for some drugs. You can ask for a retest .

As far as I know, only one doctor needs to certify a patient for hospice, and it can be the patients doctor that does this. I've work with hospice for 20 years, and in that 20 years I've never heard that it took two doctors or just the medical director with hospice to certify a patient to be enrolled in the hospice care program. The patient does hwoever need to be deemed terminal for the hospice care program to be considered.
