Yes, frogs can hear with their lungs. But, it is not the only way they can hear. Frogs have an ear drum, similar to humans, called tympanum. The tympanum is the oval shaped structure behind each eye of a frog. It is a thin membrane surrounded by a cartilage ring. When this vibrates, a rod connecting the outer tympanum to the inner tympanum transmits the sound waves into the fluid of the inner ear. Which in turn, transmits the sound waves to the hair cells lining the inner ear.

Frogs hear with their lungs by means of an air duct that connects the lungs to the tympanum. When the oscillating air pressure hits the lungs, the lungs in turn transmit that energy to the tympanum; where the process starts all over again.

What do adult frogs breathe with?

Their Answer: They breathe with their lungs because they live on land!!!!!!!!!!!! My Answer: They actually breathe through their skin, and the skin must be kept moist or it dies. That is why frogs die if you put common table salt on it. Also, most frogs live in ponds and streams, and not on land.
