what do Chinese women do as part of the celebration
(I'm Taiwanese) In very traditional families, women have to clean houses, cook large meals, and take care of the kids. But due to respect to gender equality, nowadays, women don't "have to" do anything. I think it depends more on what kind of family you're in. In my family, my mom doesn't actually have to do anything cuz my dad's great so he helps with the cleaning (and we don't always actually have a "cleanover" like lots of chinese families do), and my grandma and aunt do most of the cooking (or sometimes my mom and dad bring a few dishes over to my grandparents') and that's about all. Of course there's tons of TV-watching. But in my friend's family, her mom has to cook for like 20 people and clean the house so her mom's always frustrated during Chinese New Year.

Ancient Chinese made loud noises during festivals and holiday celebrations primarily to ward off evil spirits and attract good luck. The sounds, often created by firecrackers, drums, and gongs, were believed to scare away malevolent forces and ensure a prosperous year ahead. Additionally, the loud festivities fostered a sense of community and joy, bringing people together in celebration. These traditions continue to be an integral part of Chinese culture today.
