Because their muscular structure is so sdvanced that they can occupy even the really small cracks in the coral. There was even one octopus that could squeeze through a hole the size of a fifty pence piece. Considering its tentacle span was about three metres, that was no mean feat!

Oh, and by the way, the plural of octopus is not octopuses. It is octopi.
