The British empire grew because they wanted to trade with other countries to make their industry grow they also went to war with other countries to gain control such as France the Dutch and the Portuguese and exploring new undiscovered countries too.

British people respect laws and disciplines because there are consequences if they don't, there are consequences. Many citizens of countries other than Britain follow their countries rules.

What assumptions made you think British people are smart? The majority of us are mediocre workers, as like any other countries public system. Americans actually find some of the British's culture and mannerisms fascinating and interesting. Most Americans have a more mature view of the world than this, though like all countries there are nationalist elements who see all other countries as inferior to their own.
