St. Peter's Basilica is just a very large Catholic Church, with many side altars, and many chapels and mausoleums. There are numerous Masses held all throughout St. Peter's daily, there is a small army of sacristans and altar boys who attend a special school at the Vatican and serve all those Masses in many different languages. The boys in the school also make up the choir that sings at special events at St. Peter's. There is another army of maintenance and handyman who clean, change light bulbs, etc.
