As far as Europe and some of its overseas' colonies are concerned: They sang "every" days while working. Singing in the fields, on the road, at the workshop ... They met when they could at night, even after harsh daily work, to socialize, still working, at someone's home and at another pace though, while eating, telling stories, singing, educating the youth ... doing collective homework. They danced on each and every occasion tolerated by the dominant classes and the churches. That was a few days a month (_or year, depending on the local custom). Not far from "native" rural communities...
