I hate to be vague, but you can just about do anything you want. Repair engines, teach classes, shoot really big guns, work with SEAL teams, BE on a SEAL team (good luck with that). The opportunities are limitless. Military police, aircraft pilot, the list goes on and on. The Navy is really the best branch for a graduating high school senior to pick out what interests them as a career. They get on the job training with a field they like, and get some qualifications after discharge.
We do the same thing as civilians. We wake up and we got to work. Just like in the private sector the Military has many different jobs which makes it difficult to say exactly what any one person does on a given day.
Personally I've had days where I stay in my office from 9 to 5 and days where I spent all 24 hours in body armor conducting combat missions. I'm a Civil Affairs Specialist.
Navy is one of the five branches of the Military:
First you enlist in the Navy.
Then you are sworn into the Navy. (If you pass inspection)
After that you are shipped off to Boot Camp. (Estimate: Eight Weeks After)
If you make it though Boot Camp, You go to A School.
Last but not least, You will be asked 3 choices of were you want to go and work.
Note: Navy is not easy, it requires intensive training of the Body and Mind. Navy makes Average Civilians into Troops.
Shipboard operations and the current mission of the ship takes up most of a sailor's time. At sea, time is divided into watch sections, of 4, 6, or 12 hours depending on the number of available rates onboard, the ship in question, and the mission. 12 hour watches (12 on, 12 off) are called "Port and Starboard" watches.
The typical underway watch is 6 hours on, then 12 hours off, making for an 18 hour rotation. The 12 hours off watch is usually taken up by training, qualifications, maintenance/repair, cleaning, etc. Generally if you're a junior crew member, there's so much to keep you busy you don't have time for much leisure activity. But once you get qualifications and training out of the way, movies, games, etc., can take up time just like anything else.
Again though, it depends on the current mission. If you're transiting home, it can be pretty boring, since there's not much going on operations-wise. But when you're involved in any major military operation, the adrenaline is flowing and you've got plenty to keep you busy.
The jobs in the Navy are pretty diverse. You could do anything from working as a cook, cutting hair, doing laundry, fixing electronics, working on weapons systems, navigation, radio, and repairs on engines. Standing watches is a common duty in most positions. Travel with the unit to various places on ship or aircraft on a regular basis.
When one enrolls in the Navy you are sent to basic training. When you finish the weeks of training, you are assigned a base to live. You are then assigned a job to do on on the ship or the base you are located.
