Answering a question about "what scientologists think" is always hard, since every scientologist can have a different opinion. No one can make a statement about what a group of people think.

I'm going to answer the question "what Scientology teaches about depression" which I think is a more appropriate way of putting it.

First of all, Scientology is a religion. It does not try to treat any physiological condition and does not give any medical advice.

Its focus is to free the human spirit and increase life in human beings.

Depression can be caused by a multitude of reasons.

When the depression is spiritual in nature (as it is in most if not all cases), a person may obtain great benefits from studying and using Scientology in his own life.

A person who is experiencing depression is to a great degree out of communication with his environment. It is not able to face many aspect of that environment. The individual is not be able to confront other people, tasks or even his own body. When a person does not confront an object or a situation, that object or situation only then can overwhelm him.

The tools of Scientology can help re-establish that communication and high level of confront that a person needs to stand on his own feet.

These tools were designed for the able guy who wants to be more able, and effectively accomplish that. They can be used by anyone. They are in no way intended as a cure for depression. That doesn't mean that a person who is experiencing mild depression cannot obtain benefits from using them.

The best way is to find out by personally experiencing these tools.

On the Scientology website one can find a free online course called "The Cause of Suppression". I think this is an extremely powerful tool to have.
