Adultery might be coitus, fellatio, cunnilingus, or other, less-common activity. The Amish do not view sex as inherently evil, as do many other branches of Christsianity, and they think it somewhat amusing, somewhat insulting, that many people assume they are priggish.

The Amish do not practice birth conytol, and view a large family as a sign that one has been particulaly blessed by God. In cases where a man has suffered injuries to his gonads, for instance, from being kicked by a horse, a brother may be called into "pinch-hit", sometimes with the blessing of the bishop, sometimes by a less formal arrangement. And as with any other human community, there is much technical "adultery" that is not a violation of the trust between marital partners. The Amish, after all, are just people, not all that different from your neighbors and mine.

Hurtful cheating is viewed as a harm not only to the spouse but to the community. Those who do not mend their ways may experience shunning as the community attempts to discipline the backslider.
