Ireland is known in Gaelic as Eire. Named after the Goddess Eriu (eh-roo). Ériu, Banba and Fodhla are the 3 goddesses associated with the sovereignty of the land. All three names are used for the island in poetic usage.

They call it "Erin".

In Irish Language or 'Gaeilge' Ireland is spelt Éire.Erin is a Hiberno-English derivative of the Irish word "Éirinn". ("Éirinn" is the dative case of the Irish word for Ireland - "Éire". So Irish people call Ireland Éire and notErin.

Per the Irish Constitution of 1937, the name of the state is Eire or Ireland (in Gaelic and English, respectively.)

Many people refer to the northern section as "Northern Ireland" and the southern section as "Republic of Ireland."

Iyeman- This was the name of Ireland many, many years ago before it had cities or even towns. A tribe called the Pimas who came from far, far away-from a place no longer here today, gave Ireland its original name. The Pimas were not like humans are today they were different in the way they looked and in the way they acted. They were a kind, courageous and peaceful people and they had wings on their back and could fly.

The Pimas could also communicate with each other through their minds and so they rarely spoke aloud to one another. They shared everything and never fought. The Pimas respected and protected the land and for this they never went hungry and never suffered flood or fire.

These people are gone now. The hope is that they will return soon one day and teach us the old ways and how to live with each other in happiness.
