It was America's Manifest Destiny
While the idea of promoting democracy throughout the world, otherwise known as manifest destiny, sounds like a common cause for unification of the population of the US, it has been taking a beating in the last several decades. As a self-fulfilling prophecy, that which is predicted comes to fruition, has not been the case with the manifest destiny followers.
They each felt that the US should block outside (namely European) interference in Latin America. The Monroe Doctrine (1823) was followed by the Roosevelt Corollary (1904).

Both the Monroe Doctrine and Washington's Farewell Address emphasized the importance of American neutrality and the avoidance of entangling alliances with foreign nations. Washington warned against political factions and foreign alliances that might threaten national unity, while the Monroe Doctrine asserted that the Western Hemisphere was off-limits to European colonization and interference. Together, they reflected a broader vision of American isolationism and self-determination, advocating for a focus on domestic stability and sovereignty.
It is a common law doctrine in england.
Manifest Destiny was the belief that Americans would expand westward, and that was God's will or something like that. Through manifest destiny, the government wanted to obtain the land westward such as the louisiana purchase, hawaii, cuba. All their territorial expansion. Involvement in conquering these territories resulted in a ton of land for the american people, money, resources which were obtained through wars. Along the lines, America gained some foes, and also established power by expanding their nation. As Americans gained more land, the citizens had new opportunites (in the new lands). Some decided to create utopian societies (which didn't really work out in the end); some established ethnic neighborhoods. Others created homesteads. Remember that farming was a lot more common back then, especially in the west (newest land).

A common goal of the Proclamation of Neutrality (1793), the Embargo Act (1807), and the Monroe Doctrine (1823) was to assert and maintain American independence in foreign affairs and to protect national interests. Each of these policies aimed to prevent entanglement in European conflicts and to establish the United States as a sovereign nation that could dictate its own diplomatic and economic relations. They collectively emphasized a desire to avoid military alliances and conflicts while promoting a sense of national identity and autonomy.
James Monroe exemplified civic virtue through his dedication to public service and commitment to the principles of democracy. His presidency, marked by the "Era of Good Feelings," emphasized national unity and the importance of civic responsibility. Monroe's willingness to prioritize the common good over personal ambition, as seen in his diplomatic efforts and the Monroe Doctrine, reflects his understanding of the role of a leader in fostering a strong and cohesive society. His legacy encourages citizens to engage actively in their communities for the betterment of the nation.
