Cities have grown along the San Andreas Fault because of the many economic opportunities in California. Occasional disasters are not enough to scare people away.
It was near the fall line. It had many mountains nearby there. It had a region of dense forests, many springs and streams that provided water, and had rough roads and rivers that made it almost impossible to move goods.

It is just called the Fall Line; there is no other name for it. I looked in my geography book and it wrote the word like this: "....the Fall Line....."
Beware that you do not fall a prey to the highwaymen who stalk these roads.
The reason so much has dissapeared is because of erosion for one because you have to think these are really old Buildings and erosion gets to them. They fall down only to be covered by soil,rocks,or roads and cities. The most plausible reason is erosion and being covered by buildings and roads ect.
