5 Pillars of Islam
1. SHAHADAH. This Pillar is believing and saying the words. "There is no god except Allah, Muhammad is the messenger of Allah".
2.SALAH. This Pillar is praying five times a day. There are set prayers which Muslims should say, and all Muslims should face Mecca in Arabia when praying, and should pray on a prayer mat. People should wash before they pray. There are fixed movements, which include kneeling with the forehead placed on the ground in front. This expresses the servant status of the human being in relation to Allah.
3. ZAKAH. Each year, Muslims are supposed to give a fixed proportion of their savings for endeavours such as helping the poor. In this way, they believe that their wealth is "made pure".
4. SAWM. Refraining from food and drink during the month of Ramadan during daylight hours.
5. HAJJ. This is making a pilgrimage to Mecca at least once in your life, if it can be afforded.
Moral Equivalence?
Some Muslims suggest that the so-called First Pillar of Islam covers the first and second of the Ten Commandments, suggesting that when a person bears witness that there is no God except Allah, it effectively means that they are 'keeping' the first and second commandments. The implication here is that the word Allah is simply the Arabic word for God. Many Jews and practicing Christians reject this notion, and would argue that YHWH is different from Allah, and that a Muslim's declaration that Allah is God is therefore a transgression of the first commandment.
The comparison of the moral equivalence of the 10 Commandments and the 5 Pillars is indeed interesting for the following reason: For most Jews and Christians the 10 Commandments represent the essential core of a moral code that demands continued introspection - the basis of a good conscience. In Islam the Five Pillars represent the core beliefs that shape Muslim thought, deed and society.
1 The five pillars of Islam
1.1 Shahadah- confirmation of believing in only one creator Allaah and that Muhammad is his final servant and messanger
1.2 Salat: Prayer
1.3 Zakat: Alms
1.4 Sawm of Ramadan: Fasting
1.5 Hajj: Pilgrimage to Mecca
ten commandments:
You shall have no other gods before me.
You shall not make for yourself any carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.
You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.
Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your manservant, nor your maidservant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.
Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you.
You shall not murder.
You shall not commit adultery.
You shall not steal.
You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor's."
if ppl would practice on those whole earth would be a nice place for all..........start practicing
