The Reverse ("back") of the coin was designed by Miley Frost (at the time, Miley Busiek). Hence the MB. The JW are the initials of the original engraver of that image. [BTW- the obverse ("front") of coin was designed by, Augustus Saint-Gauden].
There was no "Battle of Britain" 50 Pence coin issued. Perhaps you refer to the 1994 "50th Anniversary of the Normandy Landing (D-Day)" 50 Pence coin. I have to point out that as I type this I have a "Battle of Britain 1940" fifty pence coin in my hand, so either I have a forged coin or Mr Lewis is incorrect in his assertion that no such coin exists.
The Battle of Jutland was in 1916. Can you provide some information about the coin like a country or mint name, the year of minting, what the coin is made from, its diameter, what is inscribed on the coin, etc?
Please post a new question with the denomination of the coin.
It's the mint mark for Philadelphia, the same as on coins minted there since 1980. When the nickel's composition was changed in late 1942 due to wartime metal shortages, the coin's mint mark was made larger and moved from the right to Monticello to above its dome to indicate the new alloy. The letter "P" was used for the first time on any US coin, along with D (Denver) and S (San Francisco).

The initials of coin designer and mint engraver John Sinnock are on the front of the dime.
Your $5.00 gold coin is a 1/10 ounce gold Bullion coin, the letters MB are the initials of Miley Busiek, she designed the reverse of the coin.
They're the engraver's initials - Dennis R. Williams
It is an "O" (not a 0) and it is the mintmark, found on the reverse of the coin under the eagle. It means the coin was struck at the New Orleans mint (the mint is no longer in operation today).
i have that same coin, freedom writon above a bold eagle an the eagle is fasing right. an under the eagle on it's right side kim is writon real small. at the bottom of the coin it says united we stand. the other side of the coin there's a total of 22 stars surrounding the American flag with AMERICA writon under it an 1776 writon under that, 17 stars around the flag, the other 5 under are the 1776. i have no idea what it is.
It's NOT a mintmark. BLP are the initials of Bela Lyon Pratt who designed this coin.
These are the designers initials.
If the coin has one, the mintmarks are on the reverse under the eagle.
should be under the eagle on the back of coin. If no mint mark it would have been minted in Phil. Pa. I believe that year they were minted in SF. CA, Carson city, and Philly. I stand to be corrected.
Mintmarks are on the reverse under the eagle.
If it has one it will be on the reverse under the eagle.
With no mint mark or an "S" under the eagle, $210 to $265 depending on wear. With "CC" under the eagle, $400 to $1200
