The year can be determined by the 10th digit of the VIN. Here is a cross-reference of that 10th digit with its corresponding production year:
Each of the following letters, in the order specified, correspond to a year 1976 thru current year:
a b c n t x z d e f g h j k l m n p r s t v w x y 1 2 3 4 5 6 7
In other words, a=1976, b=1977, c=1978, n=1979, etc.

The VIN on the Kawasaki KLF300C is located on the lower left rail just in front of the foot step or peg. The VIN is generally on a metal tag.

I could be wrong, but it looks pretty much like a Kawasaki Vin number to me. Had both bikes and it compares pretty much like one i had, i just looked it up in my notes and it has the same combination of numbers and letters - set out the same way. I would guess Kawasaki!

The tenth digit in a Kawasaki's VIN represents the year it was made. "B" is listed as either a 1981 or 2011. This particular VIN is not showing any company records so a call to Kawasaki's customer service might be helpful.
You either have a partial vin number (all vin numbers after 1981 are 17 digits) or a bike pre 1982. If you have an older bike, your Kawasaki dealer should be able to help you determine what year it is. In 1981, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration required that all vehicles must contain a 17 character VIN. Before that each manufacturer was basically using there own vin system.
go to motoverse.com. then type in the vin.
