They made giant stone sculptures of heads and the major Olmec centers (civilizations) were in the East, near the Gulf coast of Mexico. They were La Venta, San Lorenzo, Leguna de los Cerros, and Tres Zapotes.
That they are hunters and gatherers from previous times. Some of the artifacts archaeologists found told them that when they held games, whoever lost is sacrificed to their god. More artifacts have been found the explain many of their reasoning's. But, archaeologists are still trying to figurehow the Olmec civilization declined.........
